Don't just take our word for it

Pull out larder.

Our pull out larder needed a small repair. Fully aware it wouldn't be a big job which normally means companies are not interested. Therefore was delighted with how professional Peter and the office were. Polite, professional and completed the job well. Anything further in the future on a bigger scale we would use Peter/Principle Kitchens and Carpentry.

Fitting New Kitchen

I had originally considered a complete refurbishment of my kitchen over 6 years ago. The unexpected death of my wife and then covid resulted in no action being taken until earlier this year. A visit to Howdens gave me the opportunity to look at various designs but they only sell their kitchens to the trade. I studied various reviews and chose Principle Kitchens as all reviews were positive. It was a wise choice as Peter and his team of various experts have done a great job in refurbishing my kitchen from floor to ceiling. Peter coordinated with the various trades and removed all the waste.

Complete new kitchen!

After Peter installed my own kitchen earlier this year I recommended him to my mother as she needed a complete kitchen renewal, and it's been another brilliant project! Peter organised the new design, the electricians and plasterer, ripped out the old kitchen and then fitted a whole new kitchen, worktops and appliances, all on time, on budget and with complete expertise. The kitchen is in a retirement property were there were certain access restrictions but nothing was too much trouble. Peter made it all so easy, another fantastic experience!

It was a pleasure having Peter in our house, he was totally reliable, friendly and respectful.

I contacted Peter after reading some great reviews here, and I was not disappointed. We were renovating our kitchen with a mixture of requirements. We had the cabinetry designed but needed an expert to install them; refurbing the kitchen island with new doors and panels; relocating the old cupboards; needed new worktops and then tiling the entire kitchen floor. His own work was excellent, carried out with great care and attention to detail and his extra recommendations were fantastic. Peter was brilliant and handled the entire project with ease. Totally recommended, and I already have!

Full kitchen and downstairs bathroom refurbishment

We couldn't be happier or more impressed with Peter, Matt and the entire team. From the outset, comms around the project were clear, the team were reliable and they kept the workspace as clean and tidy as a building project can be. We appreciated the advice and steerage we received from various members of the team when some key decisions needed to be made and really appreciated how much care and attention was taken over even the smallest of details. For us, workmanship was important but having a team we were happy to have in our home for several weeks was even more key and we'd have them back any time!

This was a big job in a 4.5m square kitchen. Peter had to strip out the old kitchen and dispose of it. There was then a good amount of building work as well as prep work for the plasterer before Peter could commence fitting the new kitchen and this also involved his doing the plumbing. Peter was a one stop shop (which made life easy for me) as he arranged for the various trades to do their jobs and he managed their time and availability so that the job was finished on time. Peter worked with his assistant Matt, and both were sticklers for precision work. Highly recommended in every way.

Moved an existing kitchen from one room to another. This was not a standard kitchen to refit and required adjustment.

This was a challenging bespoke job as the existing kitchen needed to be refitted in a smaller room. Peter offered excellent solutions and we are very pleased with the new kitchen. We also had a bespoke shelving unit made for the old kitchen area. The standard of work for both is excellent and we are very happy with our new kitchen. I have no hesitation in recommending Principle Kitchens and carpentry

My second project with Principle; having been very pleased with a previous job it was a no-brainer for me to bring Peter in to refresh my kitchen. Ably assisted by Matt, my kitchen has gone from dark, dingy and enclosed to bright, airy and open by taking out a partition wall and replacing work surfaces and flooring. Small changes have delivered maximum impact, all made possible by top-notch workmanship and the rock solid construction of a beautiful beast of a breakfast bar that's set to become a favourite spot to perch. Thrilled to bits and pleased as punch - Tens across the board!

Face-lift.

On time, did the job, intelligent carpenter, a personable and polite team, would recommend. My job was not easy, fitting new worktops in a small horse shoe space over old units and thankfully Peter avoided have to do any re-tiling of the splash-back. Kitchen is great and I'm a happy customer.

New fitted kitchen.

Professional, prompt, courteous service and superb work. I would definitely use this company again and absolutely recommend them. I am delighted with my new kitchen. It was a complex build as we completely changed the layout of the room. Multiple trades were involved which were expertly project managed by Pete. The time taken to do the work was due to the discovery of an unexpected damp problem, this needed to be remediate before work could continue. Pete kept us informed at every stage during this time. Once done, the new units and appliances were quickly and very expertly installed.

Kitchen fitting.

The whole job of repair and refitting was excellent from start to finish. Principle Kitchens & Carpentry is a local company which I like to use and Peter Hodgin is excellent in all aspects of the work: very informative, takes time to understand exactly what you need, what the options and costs are. Estimates and prices are accurate; they are tidy, punctual, hard working and considerate. Work is of a very high standard and little extra details not a problem. I would definitely recommend Principle Kitchens & Carpentry and will be using them again. Thanks Peter.

We have used Peter before and have always found him a pleasure to work with. He and his team fitted a new kitchen in a rental property in between tenancies. They finished the work on schedule and we are very pleased with the new kitchen.

Creating an open plan living area

Peter created a wonderful open plan living space for us. We needed a second bedroom and we decided that the best option would be to move the kitchen into the front room. I talked through my requirements with Peter and he skilfully overcame logistical issues. The kitchen looks fabulous. It is small but perfectly formed and I didn’t have to give up any of the essentials (mainly my dishwasher!!) thanks to Peter’s creativity. I can't recommend Peter and his company highly enough. He's super friendly, goes the extra mile and, most importantly of all, he is excellent at what he does.

Pete took on the project when others said how difficult it would be and completed the project within budget to an outstanding level of craftsmanship. Tidy, trustworthy, honest and fair - and amazingly professional and polite. We have already recommended them to friends and family. The new kitchen diner has truly changed our family life. Loft conversion

Pete and his team were fantastic, from start to finish. He really listened to what we wanted and helped steer us in the right direction with some of our choices. During the work, we were kept informed every step of the way and while things never go quite to plan, disruption was always kept to a minimum and they made every effort to keep things as straightforward as possible. We are so happy with the finished work - it's way better than we had imagined. As a loft conversion, we were worried we'd end up with a pokey third cupboard, but the end result is a beautiful, light, spacious room.

Bespoke walk in wardrobe, cupboard and shelves.

The team exceeded our expectations in the build and fitting of our project. It was a complex and bespoke job carried out to perfection.

Loft conversion.

The best thing about these guys is that on a bigger project like a loft conversion, you very quickly get a feeling that your interests are always put first every step of the way as well as being able to trust the people that come in to work on the project. It's obvious how important the end product is to Principle and the ability to let them get on with the job knowing everything is being taken care of makes the whole process as smooth as you could hope for. I can't recommend them highly enough.

Fitted wardrobes.

We hired Peter and his team to fit a kitchen, and based on that excellent experience, we then hired Peter to fit two sets of fitted wardrobes in our master bedroom. The quality and finish of the craftsmanship was excellent, and even though it cost a little more to have them paint the wardrobe inside and out, it was a good decision - the paint finish is excellent. Its also worth nothing that they were extremely tidy and kept sawdust to an absolutely minimum. Our second time using Principle Carpentry & Building Services, and again, I cannot recommend them highly enough. Really courteous, tidy and respectful.

Full flat refurbishment.

Used Principle for a full flat refurb including interior wall removal, new stud walls, fitting full new kitchen, insulating exterior walls and loft space with cellotex, new loft hatch, moving door openings in load bearing walls, re-plastering / plumbing/electrics / new fitted wardrobe and prepared 2 new bathrooms ready for first fixing. Pete also acted as project manager to co-ordinate all the different tradesmen involved. Pete and Luke are extremely personable and take great pride in their work, ensuring a great finish and all snagging jobs  Highly recommended and would not hesitate to use again.

New kitchen fitted.

We had a small window in which to remove an old kitchen, lay the floor, and fit a new kitchen. We were let down by another fitter, and after asking neighbours, three neighbours recommended Peter. It was the best thing we did. Peter and his team removed the kitchen quicker than expected, and after the tilers laid the floor, they were back fitting the new kitchen. I cannot recommend Peter and his team highly enough - for craftsmanship, price and reliability. They were tidy whilst working, and at the end of each day would leave the site spotlessly clean. I’d recommend them 100%.

Kitchen refit.

Pete and his team were fantastic. Lovely people, on time and always kept up to date. Everyone who met Pete always commented to me he isn't your typical builder because he is so nice and polite! He came highly recommended from neighbours and I'm happy to recommend also. He also works really well with other contractors e.G. Floor guy, plasterer, electrician etc. His costs were also very fair.

Various shelves and a bespoke draw unit.

We are very pleased with the work undertaken by Luke and Peter at Principle Carpentry. They have completed a number of jobs for us, including shelving in different rooms and a bespoke draw unit in an awkward space in the loft. Peter took great care to understand our requirements and the draw unit is built exactly to our specifications and looks fantastic. Peter and Luke are always polite, friendly and courteous and have been happy to attend to a couple of snagging issues immediately. I have no hesitation recommending Principle Carpentry and have already lined them up for more work with us.

Floating shelves fitted in kitchen alcoves

This is the second time Pete has done some work for us and we wouldn't have asked him back if we weren't pleased with his work the first time (Nov 2014). Pete is a polite and easy to deal with guy and the work done is exactly as we expected. All in all, top work for a fair price and on time.

They took out our old kitchen and fitted new units, worktops and appliances.

Very friendly and efficient team. Good quality of work and timed it well with plumber and electrician.

Bespoke wall unit.

We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Principle Building to anyone. Peter helped to create a dream from paper in to reality and built the most beautiful bespoke wall unit in our living room. Peter was brilliant in advising us in the final design and finish, he was clean, reliable, friendly - excellent craftsmanship.

Fit kitchen.

This is not the first time Peter has done some work for me, and it won't be the last. If you need carpentry done then you need look no further. The quality of the work, tidiness and pride in what he's doing are all a given. No snag to small, and when my inevitable mission creep sets in its always greeted with a can do attitude. He does what works for me, not the other way round. On top of this, it's important that you feel comfortable with someone in your home, and he's one of the nicest people I know. I have no worries leaving him keys and letting him crack on. Use with confidence.

New kitchen fitted.

Peter and Luke were outstanding. We renovated our new house before we moved in and we were very lucky with tradesmen. Peter and Luke were two of the outstanding guys we had in and they fitted our new kitchen from Howdens. You'll see in other reviews that they are consistently reliable, trustworthy and competent. But I'd also add that they really take a lot of pride in their work, very methodical and exceptional at what they do. Really nice guys, and not only would I definitely recommend them in the future, we're looking to get them back in shortly to fit some wardrobes.

Flat screen TV built into faux chimney breast.

This is the second project we had Peter and Luke back for after we were so pleased last time with the study/day bed/cinema room project. This time they created a faux chimney breast in our lounge and mounted our flat screen TV flush inside it with an extending arms to access the cables at the back. We are really pleased, it's changed the whole room and given us more floor space as we could remove the old TV cabinet. Lovely company.

Loft hatch removed and new loft ladder fitted.

Work was done quickly, well, tidily and with concern about whether we were happy with the end result.

Garden steps and raised bed.

Rotten decking steps replaced and a new raised bed built from sleepers. Both jobs were done as quoted and are of good quality. The guys understood exactly what was required, discussed ideas and explained what they were doing and why. They are very approachable and I will be using them again in the future.

Building a bespoke garden shed, utility room refit and smaller jobs like extra shelves and door fitting.

I cannot recommend Principle Carpentry and Building Services highly enough. An absolute pleasure to have around. They're not just doers, they're problem solvers.

Bespoke day bed/book shelf and desk/shelving. Complete design of brand new media room.

Peter's vision in designing our units with our own style in mind showed great vision. Every aspect of the build have been created around uneven lines and strange angles of an old house, made to look seamless. Fantastic quality drawers and everything looks expertly crafted, built to last. We asked Principle Building to come back for this project as we were so impressed with our bespoke wardrobes last year. Peter and Luke are friendly, tidy, complete gentlemen and they liaised with electricians to create the perfect lighting effects. We are so delighted and the room is getting a lot of 'wow's.

Alcove shelves.

Beautifully finished alcove shelves. Fantastic workmanship and a really nice guy as well.

Install storage shelving, walk in cupboard and others.

Reliable, thorough, very pleased with finished product, flexible, service with a smile. Will definitely recommend them.

New fencing panels made and installed.

Peter and Luke did an excellent job; they built and erected a series of fencing panels, using battens, to give us more privacy in our back garden. As they did the work they regularly checked with us about details if the build, and even undid and rebuilt section of labelling after we changed our minds about the spacing between batters. They were good humoured, courteous and neat, and we are delighted with the end result.

Build some floor to ceiling wardrobes and painted them.

Peter built the wardrobes from scratch after I showed him a few pictures. He did an amazing job and was in contact throughout the process, when designing and making panels. They painted everything as they went and very, very tidy and diligent. He also offered useful suggestions for materials and upgraded many of the components without upping the budget. The wardrobes look amazing and we get plenty of Would definitely use them again and tell all my friends about them!

Peter and Luke have done fantastic job in our house. They built bespoke floating shelves beautifully. Fit all the doors, skirting, architrave and many more jobs around our house. Very good price. Very polite highly recommended. Thank you very much :)

Peter also took the utmost care not to cause any unnecessary mess etc. Very happy indeed.

Kitchen door shaved and re hung to stop it sticking.

I had a back door which had been difficult to open and close for months, and decided to get it fixed properly before autumn and winter rains. Peter sorted out the problem by taking off the door, planing it, readjusting the hinges etc and re hanging it. He did the job for a very reasonable price, turned up on time, was conscientious about cleaning up any debris, and was courteous in his approach.

To design and install three sets of pine alcove shelving, pine cupboards and bespoke pine computer workstation

We contacted Peter, having found his details on check-a-trade, with regard to designing and installing a bespoke computer work station, two cupboards, and three sets of shelves in the alcoves in our lounge. Peter got back to us and arranged an appointment to assess the work we required and measure up to give us a quote. We were immediately impressed with Peter, as he took the time to talk with us and pinpoint exactly what we were looking for, and explain how he would go about completing the work if we decided to go ahead. He was polite and friendly and gave us a very reasonable quote (which was in fact cheaper than his competitors and specifying better quality materials) and so we decided to book him for the job. We were not disappointed - we are over the moon with the finished product! The units are exactly what we wanted and with a number of finishing touches which really makes a feature of these shelves and units. Throughout the work Peter was friendly and professional and talked us through the work as it continued, checking that things were as we'd like and consulting with us if he felt that things could be further improved, which I think is one of the reasons that it turned out so well. To cap it all off Peter was also really helpful and even helped us out with a few other DIY issues we were having at the end of the job! To sum up we would definitely recommend Peter to friends and family, and in fact since this first job was completed we hired him again for another smaller project too. Layed quick-step floor, re-hung doors and general maintenance.

I'd just moved in to my new house and needed a tradesman that I could trust.  I'd looked at his feedback and decided to go with Pete. He layed my dining room floor in a manner that has been commented on by my friends, as it was truly fitted against my oddly shaped architrave.  My doors now also close properly! Apart from being honest, clean, reliable, hardworking and skilled I would recommend him most due to the fact he is a top man.

Fitted bespoke wardrobe

Very happy with the work. Friendly and trustworthy. Would recommend and use again.

Bespoke bathroom furniture and boxing of pipes

I needed a way of really making my new bathroom feel less of a mess - adding some extra storage space, surfaces and boxing in unsightly pipes. I'd redone the bathroom myself so far, but knew I couldn't do this and I wanted it to look really good - the finishing touch to a long (and painful) project. Peter did a first class job - not only was it quick and efficient, and at a reasonable cost - the quality of the finished job is great.  It looks good, makes and is clearly solid work that's going to last. I'd highly recommend Peter - he doesn't muck about, does what he says he will, and to a high standard.

Insulate loft with ridged insulation and lay floorboards

Very easy to talk to, helpful and gave me lots of different options for my budget.  I would highly recommend.

Laid a wooden floor for me in my kitchen

Peter removed my old floor and laid a new wooden one for me. I was really impressed with the speed of the work and the finish was brilliant. Exactly what I wanted.

New flooring.

Peter is very conscientious, tidy and honest. I would recommend him highly. A really nice guy.

Shelves and cupboards.

Peter listened to our ideas, he made excellent suggestions and really understood our requirements. We loved the work he did and will certainly use him again.

New decorative bath panel.

Great job, very pleased with all the work. Finished bathroom off perfectly. Reliable and friendly.

General carpentry and construction of furniture

Pete is a skilled craftsman with an excellent manner, I would recommend his work to anyone.

New fitted kitchen diner

Pete and Matt were a pleasure and we can’t thank them enough for the great work on our kitchen. Pete took on the project when others said how difficult it would be and completed the project within budget to an outstanding level of craftsmanship. Tidy, trustworthy, honest and fair – and amazingly professional and polite. We have already recommended them to friends and family. The new kitchen diner has truly changed our family life. Thank you.
